Their origins go back almost 1000 years, when the breed was probably developed by Belgain monks. They're typically medium sized dogs with large black noses, long ears, and very docile natures.

Jethro was found about 2 years ago on a Jasper road by a friend of Cheryl's. They checked with animal control and other local agencies to see if someone had reported a dog like him missing, but no one had. Cheryl believes he's about 4 years old now.

Jethro for the most part is a pretty lazy dog. He likes to hang out under the shrubs on the side of Cheryl's house, or out by the barn. He is very sweet, but has been known to mix it up with Blue, the golden retreiver mix. I have found that Jethro loves to get his rather large, long ears scratched, appreciates it if you wipe the drool off his mouth, and will be a forever friend if you give him a treat.

If you come to the Rescue, be sure and stop by and give Jethro a few scratches !

Muffin

Muffin, Muffie, Muffy Girl, it doesn't matter, she will come happily to any of those names. I call her Muffie Girl because it just seems to fit her. When I drive down the dirt road into the rescue and Muffie hears my car, she always comes to greet me, and I get lots of kisses. Her tail is always waging and she will follow you anywhere, especially if you have treats.

Muffin came to the rescue in 1996. She was dropped off by a women in financial straits. Her intent was to leave Muffie at the rescue for 1 year until she could get back on her feet financially. Muffie was about a year old and had just had a litter of pups when she was dropped off. Cheryl found homes for all the pups and Muffie stayed on. The woman eventually came back to get Muffie but Muffie was happy where she was, and both the woman and Cheryl agreed to let her live at the Rescue.

There are about a dozen dogs who live and are cared for at the Rescue. Some have been dropped off, some have been found along a road. All of them feel safe and loved here.
